MacDonald Highlands

A guard-gated hillside community in the McCullough Mountain foothills of Henderson, home to the private DragonRidge Country Club.

The Feel

MacDonald Highlands climbs the foothills of the McCullough Mountains just south of the 215, and the slope is the first thing you notice. Homes step up the hillside toward the views the community is known for, across the valley to the Strip and the mountains beyond it. You come in through one of two gates, Valle Verde or Stephanie, and both are staffed around the clock.

Inside, there are walking trails and three parks. Linear Park has a pavilion and a tree-lined path. Over at West Park you'll find tennis courts, a play area and a dog park. East Park is home to the DragonRidge Tennis & Athletic Center, with five tennis courts (one is a stadium court), a basketball court and a fitness center.

Golf here means DragonRidge Country Club, a private club where membership is optional. Jay Morrish and David Druzisky designed the 18-hole course. It plays 6,975 yards from the back tees over arroyos, volcanic rock and elevation changes, and the community's own site says every hole has a view of the Strip. Water shows up as features on the course and as waterfalls worked into the landscaping.

The homes are a mix. Custom estates sit beside builder neighborhoods from Blue Heron and Christopher Homes, and Four Seasons Private Residences Las Vegas is under construction inside the community.

What Buyers Should Know

  • The view sets the value. The community is marketed on its Strip and valley views, but what a given home actually sees depends on its elevation, which way it faces and what's built around it. It's worth standing in the home itself, once in daylight and again after dark, before you settle on a price.
  • Treat the HOA and the club as two separate decisions. Master association dues are $330 a month, and the HOA says that number has held for years. DragonRidge membership is optional, so we get current costs directly from the club and check whether the home's neighborhood adds a fee of its own. Planning a remodel? Changes to an existing home need Design Review Committee approval.
  • New construction is limited. Blue Heron says only a few homesites are left on Dragon Peak Drive, SkyVu was planned with 102 homesites near the summit, and the Four Seasons residences are still being built. Everything else is resale, from single-story Vu Pointe homes to large custom estates.

We can walk you through new construction and the resale market side by side.
